Hi! I'm Joel. I live and work in San Francisco, California. I’ve been taking photos since the age of 7 when my parents gave me a hand me down camera.
I’ve recently gotten really excited about printing photography thanks to a zine class I took. Zines are like small self published magazines. Its a thing you can hold in your hand and you can see it in different lights. A series of photos can live together in a little booklet in a series and they're fun to page through. It remains in your space so it is easily revisited. You can sit with it and think about the moment it was created, the artist who made it and their thought processes. You can form a personal connection with the person who created it.
Zines are having a bit of a cultural renaissance at the moment. I think its partly due to wanting more authentic ways of sharing art with people.
My goal is to make "beautiful somethings", objects that exist in the real world that you can really feel. Something that was made by a person with thoughts, choices and intent behind it. These somethings are all limited run physical works of art. I think this is going to be more fun and fulfilling than posting. I hope you find something you like!
